The most popular doctors in the country
A study conducted by the Institute for Management and Economic Research (IMWF Austria) in collaboration with the KURIER has identified Austria’s most popular doctors. The study was based on approximately 670,000 online reviews of some 10,800 practicing doctors.
I am delighted to have been named one of Austria’s most popular surgeons for the sixth consecutive year in 2026. The evaluation criteria included empathy, personal interaction, service, the quality of the practice’s facilities, and wait times.
This award is based on the experiences and reviews of patients, and for me it is both a recognition of my work and an incentive to continue combining high-quality surgical care with personalized attention. I would like to sincerely thank all my patients for their trust.

New publication in European Surgery
My article "Robotic-assisted transabdominal preperitoneal repair: a step-by-step approach" was published in the journal European Surgery.
In it, I describe a structured, anatomy-based r-TAPP technique using the daVinci® system for the treatment of inguinal and femoral hernias. The focus is on a standardized step-by-step approach, precise preparation, and the advantages of robotic technology.

trend.Med Interview: SurgVRse!
Many thanks to trend. for the engaging interview on the topics of digitalization, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and robot-assisted surgery!
With our VR-AI eLearning platform SurgVRse, we aim to ensure that the surgeons' learning curve does not become the patients' suffering curve.
I look forward to the next steps – together with my co-founder Micheal Maier.

Successful European Premiere
Today, I had the opportunity to be the first surgeon in Europe to use the new 3DMax™ Mid Mesh from BD in a robotically-assisted manner – with consistently convincing results.
The mesh excels with precise handling, a midweight design, and a large-pore structure – in my view, midweight meshes will play an increasingly important role in many indications in the future.
My special thanks go to Thomas Piber, MBA, and the entire BD team for their trust and excellent collaboration – as well as to Univ.-Prof. Dr. René H. Fortelny, with whom I not only maintain an inspiring professional exchange but also collaborate as a well-coordinated team in the operating room 🙌
To successful procedures – and optimally cared-for patients 🙏🏻
