Robotic Surgery

High-tech Supported Minimally Invasive Surgery

The daVinci® System is revolutionizing modern surgery as a highly advanced robot-assisted surgical system. Its precise instruments, offering greater dexterity than the human hand, enable surgeons to perform complex procedures with utmost precision.

The surgeon controls the system from an ergonomic console, which leads to improved concentration and enhanced patient safety. As an established method in general and visceral surgery, it facilitates minimally invasive procedures while ensuring optimal control by the surgeon.

The daVinci® System is a device similar to an industrial robot, utilized in surgery to assist operators. The key advantages of the daVinci® System focus on visualization, unrestricted instrument handling, and user-friendliness for the surgeon. Its modern instruments feature 7 axes, two more than the human hand.

This significantly increases the degrees of freedom, enabling much more complex maneuvers than with traditional laparoscopic instruments. The stability and steadiness of the camera guidance and inserted instruments enhance the precision of surgical steps.

The surgeon does not stand at the operating table but sits at an operator console, with their head typically resting in front of a 3D screen. Fatigue, which often leads to concentration difficulties during lengthy traditional laparoscopic procedures, is reported to be significantly reduced by robot-assisted surgeons. The daVinci® System automatically guides the inserted instrument to its last used working position, dramatically enhancing patient safety and potentially preventing organ injuries.

Despite telemanipulation, immersion ensures a greater proximity to the surgical field for the surgeon. It is important to note that the robot always remains under the surgeon's control; autonomous processes do not occur at the current stage of development.

In general and visceral surgery, particularly in the field of abdominal wall and hernia surgery, a significant global increase in robot-assisted procedures has been observed. Complex abdominal wall and inguinal hernia operations can thus be performed with the daVinci® System without large skin incisions.
