The most popular doctors in the country
A study conducted by the Institute for Management and Economic Research (IMWF Austria) in collaboration with the KURIER has identified Austria’s most popular doctors. The study was based on approximately 670,000 online reviews of some 10,800 practicing doctors.
I am delighted to have been named one of Austria’s most popular surgeons for the sixth consecutive year in 2026. The evaluation criteria included empathy, personal interaction, service, the quality of the practice’s facilities, and wait times.
This award is based on the experiences and reviews of patients, and for me it is both a recognition of my work and an incentive to continue combining high-quality surgical care with personalized attention. I would like to sincerely thank all my patients for their trust.

New publication in European Surgery
My article "Robotic-assisted transabdominal preperitoneal repair: a step-by-step approach" was published in the journal European Surgery.
In it, I describe a structured, anatomy-based r-TAPP technique using the daVinci® system for the treatment of inguinal and femoral hernias. The focus is on a standardized step-by-step approach, precise preparation, and the advantages of robotic technology.

New minimally invasive technique: MILOS
Dr. Teodor Kapitanov routinely operates on scars or abdominal wall hernias up to 8 cm in diameter using the "mini-open" or "less-open" sublay technique (MILOS). "Mini-open" means that the skin incision is no longer than the diameter of the hernia. This technique allows the entire abdominal muscle layer to be prepared with the implantation of very large plastic meshes without having to make long, painful skin incisions. The advantage over the classic minimally invasive technique is that the plastic mesh used to reinforce the abdominal wall is no longer inserted into the abdominal cavity but is placed under the abdominal muscle layer, meaning that the mesh no longer comes into contact with the abdominal organs.
